Nanny was the best grandparent I could ever ask for. I have so many beautiful memories of her. Nanny always made me feel special and took the time to let me know she cared. I didn't get to spend nearly as much time with her over the years as I wanted to because we lived so far away in Arizona, so the time spent with her over summer vacations in Ohio, Nanny and PopPop's trips to Arizona and a few Christmases in Ohio carried extra special significance. Nanny had an infectious laughter that filled the room. She loved talking about people and their experiences--I remember being in awe of the way she could describe events and bring you right into the story. Of the seemingly countless number of memories I have of Nanny, highlights include:
-Going to King's Island
-Playing in the basement
-Homemade scrambled eggs and alligator rolls from Buskens
-Her caressing my arm at night as a child before bedtime
-Laundry and perfume that had that "Nanny" smell
-Playing cards (laughter often ensued during these times)
-Swimming (I would push Nanny around on her raft and accidentally tipped her over once, messing up her hair that she so regularly cultivated to perfection)
-Going to San Diego and Hawaii with family
-Going to Slide Rock in Sedona, which included the "great fall" caught on camera
-Attending Nanny and PopPop's 50th wedding anniversary
Nanny was and will always be one of the brightest blessings in my life. Family is special and she stood out as a shining star. Her qualities of strength, passion, devotion and hard work are a legacy which inspires all of us who were privileged to be a part of her life. Nanny's love for me was unsurpassed and she valued every moment we spent together. She will always have a special place in my heart.
